Park Scholarships

The Park Scholarships were established at NC State in 1996 with a generous grant from the Park Foundation of Ithaca, New York. Since that time, Park Scholars have been given many incredible opportunities, including the chance to shape the program and create many of the projects and events that define the scholarship today.

As alumni, we have the opportunity to create an even more competitive program and provide new opportunities for current scholars. Supporting study abroad is our first step.

In keeping with its mission to ”encourage a continual flow of outstanding applicants to the Park Scholarship and contribute toward their educational needs while enrolled,” the PAS board has selected study abroad as an important program need to support. As more students look at semester exchanges, and more employers and graduate programs place value on these experiences, supporting this opportunity helps raise the prestige of the scholarship while providing a real benefit to scholars.

Our goal is to raise funds for a Study Abroad Stipend that will be dispensed beginning in the 2006-2007 academic year. The stipends will be applicable toward travel costs for Park Scholars who are participating in a study abroad exchange approved through the University.

Planning for the Future

It is the wish of the PAS board that the fund will eventually reach the level necessary for endowment, and with this in mind, there will be a plan for saving money over the minimum fundraising goals each year. It is our expectation that this will be an on-going campaign, and we encourage donors to consider making a pledge that will support the stipends for several years. To learn more about making a pledge, visit this section.

Our initial goal is to raise at least $6,000 to fund the first year of stipends (2006-2007) by July 1, 2006 (postmark). Donations made after this date, while appreciated, will not count toward the participation goals for this fundraising drive.

Donor Recognition

Any donation of $500 in a year earns the donor recognition in the Chancellor’s Circle (applies to recent graduates in the last 10 years only). To learn more about donor levels, visit the General FAQ.

All donations—regardless of size—will help fund scholars’ trips abroad. If you’d like information about donating, visit our How to Donate page.
